YB MINISTER’S MESSAGE

Assalamualaikum wbt,

In line with rising costs of living and food wastage in Malaysia, the Government has introduced Food Bank Malaysia Program as one of the initiatives to help underprivileged people through free food supply.

In addition to help people cope with the rising cost of living, Food Bank Malaysia Program also aims to create a more structured food surplus management structure and help the retail industry to overcome food waste.

Food Bank Malaysia Program is also in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 12.3, which aim to reduce half of the overall food surplus (Food Waster) by the retail and consumer industries by 2030. It is hoped that Food Bank Malaysia Program will provide continous benefits to the people, especially the less fortunate B40 income group.

YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Bin Ismail
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister &
Board of Trustee Chairman Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia

CEO’S MESSAGE

Assalamualaikum wbt,

I would like to welcome you to the official website of Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia (YFBM). In line with the People’s Initiative, YFBM has been entrusted with the responsibility for implementing the Food Bank Malaysia Program.

According to statistics released by the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), Malaysians produce 15,000 tonnes of food waste daily. Of these, 3,000 tonnes of excess food is still edible. Therefore, the establishment of the YFBM provides a platform for parties involved in food supply to avoid food waste and indirectly assist the underprivileged people.

B40 income earners and students at the public universities are the main beneficiaries of Food Bank Malaysia Program. However, the target groups of Food Bank Malaysia Program will be expanded in phases from time to time.

Lastly, I would like to express my sincere thanks for your visit to our Official Website of YFBM and I hope that this website becomes a medium of communication between YFBM and community.

Thank you.

Tuan Haji Ab Wahab Bin Long
Chief Executive Officer
Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia
